Homebuilder's Wide Range of Charitable Initiatives Include Food and Toy Drives, Fundraisers and Event Sponsorships

IRVINE, CALIF. (February 18, 2008) - For many companies, charitable giving only occurs during the holidays, but for Irvine-based homebuilder MBK Homes, philanthropy is a year-long campaign. Throughout the year, MBK Homes contributes to many local and national initiatives - from foster care to global warming - in an effort to bring the company together to help the community.

"Our employees are incredibly involved in MBK Homes' charitable outreach," said Tim Kane, president of MBK Homes Southern California. "Some of our most popular programs were created by members of our team who wanted to make a positive impact on our community. We encourage their philanthropy and are happy to support their initiatives."

Local Initiatives
As an involved member of the community, MBK Homes contributes to several local organizations, providing monetary support and in-kind donations for those in need. When the wildfires destroyed homes throughout Southern California, MBK Homes assisted the Building Industry Association to raise funds for displaced families. Through MBK Homes' company matching program, over $6,000 was raised for the California Fire Rebuilding Fund.

In Orange County alone, over 35,000 people are homeless, 70 percent of which are families with children. To help ensure the homeless are able to enjoy a healthy Thanksgiving meal and beyond, MBK Homes hosts a food drive supporting the Orange County Rescue Mission's efforts to provide the homeless with daily needs and the resources to become self-sufficient members of the community. This past Thanksgiving, MBK Homes collected 700 pounds of food, which is equivalent to 1,400 meals, and donated $750 to the Orange County Rescue Mission.

To help bring joy to less fortunate children during the holidays, MBK Homes also hosts an annual toy drive partnering with Orangewood Children's Foundation and their program dedicated to assisting children in the foster care system. In addition to collecting toys for the children, MBK Homes donated $1,110 to Orangewood Children's Foundation to further support their efforts throughout the year.

Green Initiatives
Green building is an important element in MBK Homes' business model, but only serves as one aspect of the homebuilder's green initiatives. Through a unique recycling program, MBK Homes supports Polar Bear SOS, a Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) program aimed to help stop global warming pollution. The year-long program involves recycling cans and plastic bottles, and donating proceeds to Polar Bear SOS. By 2020, NRDC hopes to help stop global warming pollution, the number one threat to polar bears, by 25 percent and 80 percent by 2050.

Health Initiatives
In support of the Construction Industries Alliance for City of Hope, MBK Homes joined executives from the Southern California construction industry at the 2007 Spirit of Life Gala. Celebrating the culmination of a year-long fundraising campaign which raised over $1.8 million for City of Hope's cancer research and treatment programs, MBK Homes lent its support in the form of an event sponsorship, which will assist City of Hope in its research and treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Every year, MBK Homes sponsors WalkAmerica, a national walking event benefiting March of Dimes. Through a corporate sponsorship, individual donations and a company-matching program, MBK Homes raised over $7,100 for the organization, which will help fund programs for the prevention of premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. As supporters of this annual event, MBK Homes has implemented new ideas to make their involvement more effective for participants. In addition to providing refreshments for walkers, the homebuilder also included water dishes for pets as part of the company's water stop.

Last December, MBK Homes participated in Lee National Denim DayŽ, one of the largest single-day fundraisers for breast cancer. For a $5 contribution to the Women's Cancer Programs of Entertainment Industry Foundation, MBK Homes allowed employees to wear denim to work, with proceeds funding early detection and treatment research and community educational services for breast cancer patients and their families.

"Philanthropy is an important part of our corporate culture at MBK Homes," said Kane. "Our community outreach programs are designed to allow every employee to participate. Not only do these programs provide team-building opportunities and boost employee morale, but they also serve as an effective way to make a difference in our community."

MBK Homes continues to expand its homebuilding activities in some of Southern California's most desirable locations. MBK neighborhoods include Foxborough and Rivermist in Corona, Medallion in Beaumont, Tremont at Serrano Heights in Orange, Somervale in Riverside, Ravello in Whittier, Celamonte in Chino Hills, Eton at College Park in Chino and Greenbrier in Yorba Linda. MBK Homes is planning additional communities at Aragon in Signal Hill, Trieste in Lake Elsinore and 1600 at Artesia Square in Gardena.
